 LOCAL PROFESSIONAL TO ADDRESS NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BEREAVEMENT IN SEATTLE SOUTHAMPTON, NY - August 31, 2011 - Laraine Gordon the Founder and Executive Director of Time For Teens, Inc. has been invited as a guest speaker to The Moyer Foundations' National Bereavement Conference. Ms. Gordon will be presenting on her innovative not for profit organization, Time For Teens, Inc. Time for Teens provides a sensitive, caring, and creative environment for healing through education, counseling and creative expression for teenagers between the ages of 12 - 19 who have suffered the loss of a loved one. "I am inspired by The Moyer Foundation's dedication to the support of children in distress," says Laraine Gordon, Time For Teens Founder and Executive Director. "It is an honor to be a part of their national conference to address how creativity and experiential techniques strengthen adolescent resiliency following a loss," continues Laraine. Traditionally, talk therapy is used as a way to engage teenagers in bereavement support settings, which is not particularly effective. Experiential work is action oriented and dramatic, the results are powerful and can be life changing for teens struggling with painful experiences. I have been utilizing experiential techniques with teenagers for 15 years and find it to be the most effective therapeutic approach particularly but not exclusive to grief, bereavement and the adolescent population." The conference has been established by the Moyer Foundation and will take place in Seattle, WA October 6-7, 2011. The objective of the National Bereavement Conference is to give bereavement professionals and organizations information and training on bereavement camp programming, organizing and fundraising for children and teens. Separately, this year for the first time Laraine will be extending her expertise by offering a weekend workshop to adults who are experiencing grief and supporting a teenager through the healing process.
